It took a while for advertisers to embrace the promise of digital media, but a milestone was reached in 2017. That’s when advertisers spent more on digital ads than on traditional TV marketing. Digital ad spending totaled $209 billion USD worldwide in 2017, or 41 percent of the market, compared to $178 billion USD spent on TV. And estimates show that the gap is expected to get even larger.
As (previously) seen on TV:
- Television ad spending has not hit the skids, but it hasn’t grown much either. Spending has pretty much remained flat, or increased slightly.
- Over the next two years, spending on digital advertising is expected to make up half of all ad sales. .
- Ad spending on social media sites is expected to jump by 26 percent in 2018.
